After watching my first effort to mow fairways at a golf course, I 100% agree with the D+ grade (also a first! Lol) All I can say is that I won’t be “quitting my day job anytime soon.” In my defense, mowing my own lawn is a piece of cake in terms of seeing the lines, but this was on painted Bermuda and according to my instructor, “everyone would be bad at first.” I’m sure Reuben was only trying to make me feel better.

Earl quit farming in 1985, only to begin driving school buses and mowing grass at a golf course in Iowa in 1986. Back then, when the course would shutdown for the winter, Earl would single-handedly manage blowing out the lines and then head to Arizona. He used to split his time between courses, but he’s now a permanent Arizona resident and a fixture at Painted Mountain Golf Club in Mesa. Although in his 90s, Earl rides his bike to work, mows the greens six days a week, and then fills divots as his “second” set of duties so that he can get his steps in! It’s no wonder why he’s such an inspiration to the rest of the crew! Every course needs an Earl! 🙌🏼#golfcoursemaintenance #greenskeeping ⛳️ #unsungheroes
